Association Update       

Mr. Weitzel is a Managing Director of The Taft Companies and a principal in the firm of Palmetto Consulting of Columbia, LLC.  Previously, he was President and Chief Executive Officer, and prior to that Chief Financial Officer of The Seibels Bruce Group, Inc. He has also been Chief Financial Officer of Milwaukee Insurance Group, Inc.; CFO for Universal Reinsurance Corporation; and Director of Internal Audit for Armco Insurance Group. He started his career as a Certified Public Accountant with Peat Marwick, Mitchell & Co.

He has transformed an operation with ten consecutive years of operating losses into one that enjoyed eleven consecutive quarters of operating profits.  As a CFO, he led a mutual insurance company through an initial public offering, and has done two secondary offerings with different companies.  He has been the primary contact for regulatory authorities, and merged two insurance companies with differing domiciles and offsetting cash flow positions.  He has managed rating agency relationships, as well as investor relations programs, banking relationships and reinsurance relationships throughout his career.

Mr. Weitzel has made presentations on "Capital Formation for Insurance Companies" on behalf of Executive Enterprises and for the annual international conference of Insurance Accountants and Systems Association. He has appeared as a featured guest on Carolina Business Review, an educational television program, and on several occasions on the radio show, Your Money Matters.  He has made numerous road show presentations on behalf of his companies in Wall Street and throughout the financial community in conjunction with capital transactions.

He recently competed a term serving as President of the Southern Carolinas Chapter of the Financial Executives Institute and a term on the Board of Directors of the Columbia, South Carolina Chamber of Commerce.  He currently serves on the Investment Advisory Committee of the Palmetto Health Alliance, and on the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Captive Insurance Association.  He is active in American Institute of CPAs.  Previously, he served on the Milwaukee Chapter FEI Board of Directors, and was Chairman of the Insurance Committee of the Wisconsin Institute of CPAs.  He has served as Treasurer and a Board member of various community organizations in Columbus, Ohio and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
