Legislative Update From the House

Representative Harry Cato was elected Chairman of Labor, Commerce and Industry (LCI) Committee of the South Carolina House of Representatives in December 1994.

A native South Carolinian who resides in the town of Travelers Rest in Greenville County, Cato has been a member of the LCI Committee since 1991 when he was elected to the House from Greenville District 17.  His previous public service includes service includes service on Travelers Rest City Council from 1986-90 and as Mayor Pro Tempore from 1988 to 1990.

Cato is a businessman and Manager of Cato Transportation Supply, Inc.  He serves on the Bank of Travelers Rest Board.  He was named to the Outstanding Young Men in America in 1988.  Cato is active in the Travelers Rest United Methodist Church.  He has previously served as Chairman of the Sanctuary Building Committee and Chairman of the Finance Committee.

He holds a bachelor’s of science degree from Clemson University in Administrative Management and was on the Dean’s List form 1978-1980.  He is an Eagle Scout and has served as Chairman of the Northern Greenville County Food Crisis Ministry Board.  He has served on the Advisory Council of the North Greenville Hospital and is currently on the Board of Director’s of the North Greenville Family YMCA, where he has previously served as Chairman of the Board.
